Tmux

I tried using Alacritty as my terminal for sometime (speed, customization etc.). One big “limitation” with Alacritty is that it doesn’t use the concept of tabs. You can keep creating new “instances” or windows of Alacritty for each new session you want to create but that gets old. Also Cmd-Tabbing would hoist each instance separately in the switcher which I didn’t like.

I finally bit the bullet and pulled out tmux (again). I’m not hitting myself in the head for not using it earlier. It’s a joy, allows you to have sessions run independently. A big win overall. I reverted to using Terminal.app eventually but I think picking up tmux along the way was a win.

iPhone 14 Pro

I kept telling myself i’m not going to upgrade but I got a pretty wicked trade-in offer. That coupled with the always-on screen shifted the tide.

… but then I returned it. Having followed Casey Neistat a lot I realize that I want to use whatever I own to the point of it breaking or becoming less useful, before I upgrade.

Caught up on some TV shows

After many long months, I finally got some free time to catch up on some TV shows. House of Dragon, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Rings of Power… It’s a good time to get back to watching TV seriously again.

Kotlin starter project

There are days I want to write some pure kotlin code and have some test cases run against it. For some reason the IntelliJ Jetbrains new project template was busted. So I went old school and created it with gradle. I now have a quick template I can keep using.

Wrote the code + tests for an algorithm I’ve wanted to write the logic out for. Nothing fancy, just a recursion/dyanmmic programming type problem. I was starting to feel less confident about writing out the solution with complete detail. Also a good chance for me to sharpen my Kotlin again, as I embark on a heavy rewrite with TrueTime.

Review September’s Goals

Overall a pretty piss poor performance. But I feel really good about that blog post.
