Switched from Things β†’ TickTick

Here are the brief notes I’ve taken so far on why I moved:

why i use ticktick

I’ll publish a blog post eventually but I’m really liking TickTick so far. If Things made an Android client though, I would switch in a heartbeat. Damn you CultureCode.

🀦 I can’t even

I really should start jotting down my reasons here so I can revisit them and see why I switched in the first place. I am now on Recursive (a custom variant that I compiled since it’s open source).

Recursive just has “character” and the legibility & aesthetics especiallly when I’m jumping between my two monitorsβ€”β€” one of which is a 27" with an archaicly low 1920 X 1080. I plan to stick with this for sometime now but let’s see how long that lasts.

Firebase hosting β†’ Cloudflare pages

In my attempt to be less reliant on Google, I’ve decided to move hosting for this site from Firebase Hosting to Cloudflare Pages. To be clear: Firebase hosting has worked flawlessly so far and I have no qualms with it. I just feel extremely nervous with Google controlling my entire online presence. I could wake up one day with a disputable account violation on YouTube and have my email & entire website down. Decentralize!

The migration was completely seamless. The only issue I ran into was a well known dreaded mp4 rendering bug. After beating my head against the wall for about 2-3 hours, I realized that the redirection from Cloudflare DNS to Cloudflare Pages was setup incorrectly and I had my Cloudflare DNS still pointing to Firebase Hosting. It’s all nice and spiffy now. Cloudflare migration experience was ¹⁰⁄₁₀.

Cooking!

After many years, I’ve finally managed to cool some half decent dishes. Owing to some personal circumstances/constraints, my wife and I cannot eat out as readily as we might like to. Our only option therefore is to start prepping food at home. She’s taken the brunt of all the work. I’ve started to help out a little now and I must say I’m starting to enjoy it (ever so slightly).
